The biggest issue facing Virginia right now is transportation, especially in Northern Virginia. Both candidates for governor have addressed this issue in their campaigns.
Major problems right now are the number of cars, traffic delays, unpaved roads, and roads in bad condition.
These issues are not expected to improve without immediate attention and funding.
Check out some facts from "It's Time Virginia":
- More than 8,000 of Virginia’s bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete.
- Increasing traffic congestion causes approximately 38 annual hours of delay for each urban motorist in Virginia – nearly one full working week.
- Approximately one third of Virginia’s major roads are rated in substandard or mediocre condition.
- By 2025, 45 percent of Virginia’s roadways are expected to be congested unless the state’s roadways and public transit systems are expanded.
The safety of motorists should be an important issue for the state of Virginia. So many people use our roads everyday, that we can't afford not to have high quality roads.
I think that Transportation is also a major issue facing Northern Virginian's. As a new driver I see these problems. Some roads are not safe to drive on in bad weather because they are in need of repairs and the tolls for driving keep going up and they might go up again. Something needs to be done about this problem.
ReplyDeletei agree with both callie and cassie
ReplyDeletebut i will say that i think its not just an issue in northern VA transpotation is also a huge issue down near norfolk and all the delays that the bay area faces with the bridges and tunnels
We had the same issue! Cool! Anyway, obviously I agree that transportation is a big issue in Virginia for many different reasons, a main one being that I often have to sit through bumper to bumper traffic that could make Buddha crazy. All across Virginia people should be getting places faster seeing as we are living in a very fast-paced society and our transportation problems are keeping us bogged down in time wasting. Hopefully someone will act up and get something done (efficiently).
